Prepare: Smoothies for A Week

My hormones went haywire after I had Darcy. I lost 12ish kilograms in the first 2-3 weeks after his birth and then promptly put it all back on again in the space of 3 weeks. It was horrible! I was clueless as my diet and water intake had been really good, I hadn't been moving much, but it just didn't make sense.

I spoke to my Doctor and he ran several blood tests and it showed that yes, my hormones were way more out of whack than they should be after having a baby and it showed that my PCOS was well and truly out of control.

We are currently playing with my medication and I am now extra extra vigilant with my diet. This is where my smoothies are coming in. I try to have porridge for breakfast most days but on some school mornings that is a little hard seeing as school starts at 8am here.

So enter the humble smoothie. Just whack it in the blender/thermomix and away I go.

A grocery shopping day I usually come home, unpack the groceries and then do up a few bags of the following for some quick smoothies:

  • Half a banana
  • 10is blueberries
  • 3-4 strawberries depending on size
  • handful of spinach

I just add them to ziplock bags and pop them in the freezer. Then when it is time for a smoothie I just pull them out of the freezer and blend them up with 250-300mls of unsweetened almond milk and 2 tablespoons of oats.

You can find heaps of other smoothie recipes the I use here: 31 Days of Smoothies

McFatty Monday {with linky}

It has been a few weeks since I posted a McFatty Monday post. I needed to get my head around the PCOS diagnoses. Whilst my head is still spinning from it, I now feel confident that I can deal with whatever this means for me.

I am just over two weeks into my medication and I am seeing some improvements already. They are only small, but that are noticeable to me.

My PCOS diagnoses also means that it is even more important for me to shift this weight. It also means that it might be harder for me then what it is for most people to lose weight. But I feel confident that I can do this.

Truthfully, exercise has taken a back seat lately, you might have noticed that I haven't been in a very good head space that last few weeks and was only doing the basics in my day to day life. But last week I kind of hit my stride. I got most of the house organised, I got on top of chores, hell, I have even scheduled some blog posts for both here and over at And Sew We Craft.

Here's hoping I can keep this up!

So this week the plan is:

  • 8 glasses of water a day- minimum
  • Bed by 10pm every night (might be hard on Tuesday as I am working at wont get home until 930pm)
  • 3 times cardio exercise
  • 2x core/ toning exercise
 So what about you, what are you doing to take care of yourself this week?

As always if you have posted about healthy living/weight loss recently, please link up below and I will pop over and visit.

McFatty Monday

I am kind of in limbo this week waiting for some more results after my trip to the doctors last week so I don't feel like writing much of a post for you for this McFatty Monday.

I am kinda of in limbo at the moment waiting for more tests and results and then finding out where to go from here. Everything is pointing to a diagnosis of PCOS and it kind of makes sense.

It makes sense of a lot of things I have struggled with for a long time.

And it also sheds a little light on why after sticking to a pretty good diet and exercise routine that I have lost barely anything.

So sorry for a bit of a nothing post, it probably doesn't make much sense at all... but please link up below and I will pop in and visit to check out your weight loss/healthy living post.

McFatty Monday {with linky}

Well, that week went fast. I am have been feeling very blah lately. I am heading to the doctors on Wednesday for a full check-up. I feel like a whinger, but I have been having really bad lower back pain and cramping for the last couple of weeks.

And this is too much information, sorry!!! But for my last three cycles (or there abouts) I have been having mid-cycle bleeding. Accompanied with an all round feeling of fatigue and headaches, I am over it. So I am heading to my GP for blood tests and a checkup and then I will head on over to my acupuncturist after I get the bloods back to see what she recommends. I haven't been to acupuncture in over a year and I really should be going more regularly. If only for some me time.

I was going to acupuncture fortnightly (and sometimes weekly) for a while there and I found it really helped with my energy and mood levels. It is one of the things I attribute my recovery from post natal depression too.

Have you had acupunture before? Or does the thought of needles scare you?

As always if you have posted about weightloss or healthy living it would make me smile if you linked up below. The linky will be open all week.

If you link you can grab the new badge I finally made too!  Is it pretty? It matched my new digs nicely I think.

McFatty Monday {with linky}

What a week last week was! My two eldest started kindy and prep, we were in party planning mode all week, and it rained pretty much non stop.

And guess what else?! I lost 2 whole kilos!!! Lets see if I can keep it off.

I have been asked to trial the Tony Ferguson New Start plan. I am just wanting on all the products to arrive, so hopefully that will help me along the way. As well I have a long way to go, like 28kgs in fact!

I don't want to set any recordings in losing this weight, it took me a while to get to this state, so it will take me a while to get back to where I started. By making small changes here and there, I hope to make it a sustainable weight loss.

Does that sound like a fair enough approach?

The rain has hampered any outside exercise this past week, and it looks like the rain is setting in for a bit longer, but we are in the process of setting up the gym in the garage, so I should have plenty of tools at my disposal very soon.

Are you trying to change you habits? What are you doing to implement those changes?

McFatty Monday {with linky}

I am fat and that's not okay.

That sentence has nothing to do with a poor self esteem, it is simply a fact. I somehow got myself into the state of being 'obese'. Well not really somehow, it stems from my pregnancy with Ethan and then the antidepressants after his birth that seen me gain a lot of weight pretty quickly. But I have been off my antidepressants for a while now and my weight is still hovering around the 80-85kg weight range. I can't seem to get under 80kgs. It seems like I get there and then start to go back up again.

My energy levels are flat, but I KNOW that if I just started exercising more often my energy levels will lift. I KNOW this, but I just don't seem to be listening to myself. I KNOW that I am exhausted, but do you think I can go to bed at a reasonable hour?

This week I am giving myself a swift kick up the ass. I am fat and that's not okay, and I HAVE to do something about it.

First stop is to stop playing mind games with myself. I deserve better!

You know the drill, if you have posted about healthy living and/or weight loss please link up below. I'd love to read your post.

McFatty Monday

Monday rolled around quickly this week. I did about 85% of what my diary said last week. Lets see if I can boost those numbers this week!

I needed some encouraging words this week though, I have been tired and overwhelmed. I thought I would share some of the words that helped me.

McFatty Monday

McFatty Monday is back after a few weeks absence due to the holidays and then me forgetting what day it was, oops!

Anyway, I have failed at most of the goals I set myself before Christmas. I haven't been getting to bed before 10pm AT. ALL. My water intake has been pretty good, but not 2 liters every single day. And well, my exercise has only been about 2-3 times a week.

I could throw the usual excuses at you, but really the only reason I haven't been succeeding at them is because I haven't been giving them priority. This week I have scheduled my week down to the last second. That may sound like overkill to some, but I work better and reach goals faster if my tasks are recorded individually for me to see at a glance.

Can you see the 8 lines in the 2nd bottom box on every day? That is for me to mark off my water intake That probably does seem like overkill, but we will see how I go. I have recorded when, how much and what kind of exercise I will be doing on every day. Our meals are all recorded for the week so there is no second guessing.

Hopefully my planning will pay off. I will certainly let you know next week.

Well anyhow I better wrap this up. We are heading to 1770 today for a day trip and I have a car to pack.

If you have been blogging about healthy living or weight loss I would love it if you linked up below. The linky will be open all week. There are no rules, but it would make me smile if you linked to this post.

McFatty Monday

 So remember the goals I set for myself last week??? Well I failed.

Yep, last Monday night I didn't get to bed until after 11pm. That one wasn't entirely my fault. Miss Mahli was refusing to sleep. She finally called it a night at 10:45pm...

For the rest of the week I generally stuck to my 10pm bed time. And I am going to stick to it again this week, well expect for Christmas eve, I have a feeling that will be a late one.

The good news it that I drank at least 2 litres of water every single day! Go me.

I didn't get in all my workouts though, but did do the Nerd Fitness Body Weight workout 3 times and my pilates DVD once. And I was sore for the majority of the week! I am happy with that. I went from pretty much now form of exercise to 4 times in one week. I think I can give myself a pat on the back for that effort.

Well it is approaching my 10pm bedtime so I am going to leave it at that and schedule this baby.

Please feel free to link up any weight loss or healthy living posts. I would love to read them.

P.S I was slack again and still haven't made a badge for my linky. I will do it soon I promise.

McFatty Monday {with linky}

So on Saturday I put a call out on Twitter asking who could/would/do get up at 4:30am to exercise. A fair few answered with a resounding NO! But there were also a few of you that said yes, you would or do. The reason I asked is that I was trying to write up my diary for the next few weeks and fit it some exercise time. To do so it would involve quite a few 4:30am wake ups as B leaves for work at around 5:15am when he is on day shift and gets home just before 7pm then he goes for a run. So by the time he gets back from his run/weights training it is 8ish. I would really like to be able to exercise without the kids around but realise that this isn't always a possibility.

Amy was kind enough to point me to some great home based workout from Nerd Fitness, and I tried out the Beginners Body Weight Workout straight away, I have done it twice since Saturday and lets just say I am feeling a little sore... But thanks Amy! I was able to do this around the kids, well around Caden and Mahli. This is best reserved once Ethan is in bed as he tried to climb all over me when I was doing push ups!

So this week, my goals are:

  • Drink at least 2 Litres of Water everyday
  • Complete the Beginners Body Weight Workout at least 4 times
  • Pilates DVD 2 times
  • Yoga once
  • In bed by 10pm Every Night- If you see me stuffing about on Twitter or Facebook, please send me to bed!
 Would you get up at 4:30am to exercise? How do you fit your exercise time into your week?

Have you been posting about your weightloss/healthy living goals? I'd love it if you could link up below and share your journey with me? There are no rules, but I would love it if you could link back to me.

McFatty Monday {with linky}

So it seems the universe was against me last week, the week that I publicly admitted defeat with my weight and pledged to change my lifestyle for the better.

There has been pretty much no exercise due to the fact that I started the week off with a throat infection which by Friday had turned into an ear infection too.

I did increase my incidental exercises in any way that I could, but proper focused workouts just didn't happen. I did focus on my eating though, and was more aware of what I put in my mouth.

I received a comment on last weeks McFatty Monday post that really made me think about my eating habits over the past few years, and really nothing has changed in that sense at all. I can honestly say that I eat now pretty much the same way I did 6 years ago, of course I also used to walk to work most days and even though I had an office job, I had to use two flights of stairs every time I need the loo. Life is busier now than it was 6 years ago, I didn't have three kids to look after and a house to run. It was just B and I and the occasional housemate. We would walk the dogs most days too, these days unfortunately that only happens once a fortnight...

So really I have to stop being so complacent and try to incorporate more incidental exercise into my everyday life.

Have you become complacent with your eating? Have you notice the same thing happening with your eating habits and weight?

Feel free to link up any healthy living or weight loss posts you have posted recently. There is only one rule persay, and that is:
  1. Please link back to me to acknowledge that you are linking up with McFatty Monday. I wold really appreciate that!
Next week I hope to have a badge to share with you too. Monday just snuck around way to fast for me this week!

McFatty Monday

For a while now I have had enough with my weight. I now weigh the most I have ever weighed except for at the end of one of my pregnancies where I carried that much fluid I started to resemble an elephant...

Anyhow, I can't give you an exact weight as my scales have died, but the last time I weighed myself I was around 85kgs that was about a month ago. That is 30kgs more than I would like to be and 15kgs more than I weighed when B and I got married 3 and a half years ago. And if I want to reminisce some more it is also 25kgs more than when I got pregnant with Caden almost 6 years ago. So yeah, I am over being fat, I am over using my anti-depressants as an excuse for my weight, and I am sick of not being able to wear my all time favourite jeans.

A few weeks ago I was sent some products to trial and review. Those products were Body Science Body  for Women products, and it was good timing really. I needed something to help kick start me on my journey. They came with an eating plan as well. And I followed it as much as I could but had to change a few things as there is no way I can eat Tuna... I have tried in the past and just can't get past the smell.

I can't tell you how much weight I have lost, but I can tell you that I have noticed that my clothing is fitting better and that in some cases they are getting loose. I am planning on sticking with the Body Science Body for Women to help me on my journey. As you can see from the Eating Plan below, you aren't replacing all your meals with the products, just a few here and there and that works for me as that is one of my problems in a sense that I either forget to eat or run out of time as I am rushing out the door with the kids.

By being able to have the snacks in my handbag or pantry I can eat them on the go and not be tempted by other options.

Have you tried meal replacements before? Do you like them or loathe them?

Every Monday I plan on giving you an update on how I am going. This means that I am accountable to someone other than myself. Next week I will start hosting a linky too. So if you want to either join me on my weight loss journey, or want to talk about healthy living and exercise, please feel free to link up.
