The day started off okay, then as I was driving the kids to school the stupid radio announcer started talking about a lady he met yesterday. He started by saying that he had a lovely chat with her, but couldn't keep his eyes of something. His female co-host said, what her breasts? He said no, nothing like that. He than went on to say that she was in her late 20's and had a beard... Not just a stray hair here or there, but a beard.
Now this subject is touchy for me, especially at the moment. With the PCOS diagnosis so clear in my mind, I now have a reason for my 'beard', and my daily plucking regime. But I am always concise of my chin and the fact that I have hair where there just isn't supposed to be on a women. There are mornings when I don't have time to 'check my chin', and I am always conscience of what people can see. Then this moron on our local radio station goes and asks the question of whether it is publicly acceptable to say to a lady, 'hey, do you know you have a beard?'
Well buddy, this women no doubt knows that she has what you call a beard, and she is probably already very self conscience of that fact. And douches like you saying this in a public medium is just uncalled for, your laughing and ridicule of the women was also uncalled for.
I was fuming after hearing this and it really shook me today.
Couple that with starting my treatment regime for PCOS yesterday and I am just a ball of bubbling emotions. I am on the pill for the next 3 months along with a few other medications to try and set my cycles right and get my hormones in check. But I still feel in the dark about a lot of things. I had wanted to try for another baby this year too, but that doesn't look like it is on the cards either.
This post probably doesn't make much sense, but I needed to type out what is in my head at the moment in an effect to make sense of it all.
Do you think the douche of a radio announcer was out of line, or am I just overly sensitive today?
I am linking up with Jess for IBOT!
I'd be sending the link to this post to the radio station so the idiot knows how hurtful his comments can be!
ReplyDeleteI've never been where you are, but I'm here to support you now. Tell me what you need when you're ready. good luck with your journey.
Thank you Cate xx
DeleteI totally understand! I am currently going through laser hair removal on my chin after about 8 years of plucking I have had enough! Just like you said I too was so self conscious if othe people noticed and I ALWAYS wore concealer on my chin to try to hide it! I have 3 treatments left and I can't tell you how excited I will be to be able to go out in public WITHOUT any makeup on and be completely ok!
ReplyDeleteI am seriously considering laser. Does it hurt?
DeleteTotal douche.. your feelings are warranted! I'm sorry that you are going through this, must be such a rollercoaster. I have endometriosis, so totally get the being in the dark bit. Thinking of you x
ReplyDeleteThanks Loz xx
DeleteHe is totally incentive to the pain and hurt
ReplyDeletehe has caused. Maybe he needs to now that he
was incentive to this poor woman and other that
where listening to him on the radio and his co host
should have changed the subject or Asked the listeners
to phone in with the reason that this happens to
some women.Hope you have better week.
Thanks Carol. I just couldn't help but think what if the woman he had been talking to had been listening. How horrible would she had felt?!
DeleteThanks for you comment x

ReplyDeleteThat's really insensitive :( I imagine that he didn't think about the woman at all - about whether she was really aware of the facial hair or not. He was just interested in finding a controversial ("funny"?) story for his radio show.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry you heard that today!
I don't understand why radio shows need to have controversial topics nowadays. I just don't get it. What really is the point of purposefully offending your listens makes them more likely to tune in?
DeleteThanks for your comment Erin :)
I hope you feel better soon Amy - what a time you've had, I hope the treatment does make a difference for you and helps you feel better very soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kirsty xxx
DeleteMy computer somehow publised a commet without me pushing the button then I deleted by accident.
ReplyDeleteI hope it wasn;t the station close to my heart. It is sad that stations have programming meeting re the content and so would have discussed it before it went to air.
As I said I hope this isn't the sttion I know and listen too, I would be surprised if it was, but am sorry that other are so insensitive not to think of offending people, especially with regards to issues they have little to no control over.
Hey Rosie, it was hot fm. I think I know what station you are talking about and I don't think I would ever expect them to talk about anything like this.
DeleteThanks for your comments
My suggestion would be to change radio stations, a wally like that doesnt deserve you as a listener :) just remember karma is a wonderful thing,it will find its way back to him :)
ReplyDeleteThank you x
DeleteSounds like this radio presenter is an absolute knob. Big hugs hun xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Sonia x
DeleteThere's no call for asking such socially inappropriate questions. I suspect he wouldn't appreciate being asked if he's a "douchebag".
ReplyDeleteI hope the PCOS treatment goes well and things start settling down for you. I haven't had it but a girlfriend did. She also did fall pregnant eventually so all isn't lost. Hang in there. At least it helps to know what's going on and that there are options. Good luck!
Thanks Veronica x
DeleteHe is without a doubt a douche. You should seriously consider a letter of complaint to the startion. Fairy wishes and butterfly kisses to you
ReplyDeleteI am still considering a letter of complaint. But my head isn't really in the right frame of mind for it at the moment. It's had to explain, but I am kind of afraid of confrontation at the moment...
DeleteHun, I'm so sorry you had a bad day. I hope you're feeling emotionally stronger today. Some guys are so insensitive, and do a lot for a laugh! My chin 'beard' has thickened up this year and I get paranoid too. I especially hate the morning sun illuminating every downy hair. THinking of you xxx
ReplyDeleteOh I so get you on the morning sun, driving the kids to school I often catch a glimpse of something that I was sure didn't exist 5 minutes earlier!
Deletebig hugs as you start your treatment xxxx I think the guy was an idiot - just like people overshare their opinions on the internet without a care as to who is reading it, i think those on the radio do the same - they have "banter" and try to be funny but forget that beyond the microphone are people listening and they have no idea who their listeners really are.
ReplyDeleteOh Amy I'm sorry! That was totally uncalled for! Doesnt he realise women have no control over these things?
ReplyDeleteAlso having to postpone baby plans is heartbreaking in itself. I can't understand why you're emotional.
I know Gemma from. H big nutshell is doing laser therapy on her mo at the moment. Maybe she is a good person to chat to about permanent removal?
hello Amy, this is the queen of ladybeards here coming to spread my love and understanding of all things beard and mo. I know exactly how you feel, exactly. it's horrible, its emotional and why the frigg can't people accept ladybeards like everyone does with other disabilities etc, because it can kill confidence and self worth and even going out in public.
ReplyDeleteI WAS a pluck three times a day girl, I've started laser is swear they needed an Austin Powers/Dr Evil GIANT laser beam but ohhh it is looking a bit HOT! Should have done it ages ago.
thinking of you darl. I know exactly the feeling. xxxxx You know guys used to call me philli-shav?
What an arse! Change the station.
ReplyDeleteI totally get that hearing something like this can take the wind out of your sails for the whole day.
One of my close friends fell pregnant with twins and she had severe PCOS. It will take a while, but you will get there. xxx
Those days are tough. Rude radio and TV people who only say things for ratings really p*** me off!
ReplyDeleteThanks Amy :) x
ReplyDeleteAgreed :)
ReplyDeleteI hope the did receive a few complaints. Thanks for your comments Misha x
ReplyDeleteDon't get me started on radio announcers, I can't listen to certain stations anymore so I don't think you're being overly sensitive. Last week a female DJ was complaining about a woman expressing milk in the toilet of a bar like it was the black plague. Some people are just paid to be ars%holes xx
ReplyDeletesounds like a total Kyle Sandilands moment to me, thus immediately discrediting it from ANY sub-categorisation even remotely related to logical, nice or thoughtful contributions!
