Little Designers

Last week when I was folding some of my fabric Caden came in and asked me if I could use some of the fabric to make him a new quilt.

I said sure and handed him a quilt book for him to pick a pattern out of. About 10 minutes later he came back to me and told me that he liked none of the quilts. I offered him another book to pick from and he told me not to worry.

So I didn't. Then on Friday I walked into my sewing room and found this next to my machine.

He designed his own quilt!! We are currently 'in talks' about how it is going to be put together and are picking the fabrics that would make it just right.

So watch this space! Hopefully in the not too distant future I will have a Robot quilt top to share with you all.

Seven.

Caden you just turned SEVEN and well, I just cannot believe it. It feels like only yesterday we welcomed you into this world and you made us parents. This past year has certainly been challenging for us all with our big move and you did better than everyone expected you too with the changes we made to all our lives.

This year you;

Lost 4 teeth
Started playing Soccer instead of Rugby League because they don't have league here
Made many new friends
Flew on not one but three aeroplanes- a first for you since you have never been on a plane
Are able to read chapter books
Are able to handle your nerves so much better than ever before
Got invited to take part in your schools gifted and talented program
And so much more

You are now seven and you make your dad and I so very very proud.

Love Mum x

I did it, Mum!

We have been trying to get Caden off his training wheels for a long long time, but his lack of confidence and his anxiety has been stopping us. He would burst out into tears at the mention of removing them, but last week I managed to convince him that it would be a fanastic idea to give it a go.

And give it a go he did!

B only held the seat for about 5 seconds and away he went, he rode 20 laps around the wetlands with a huge grin on his face the whole damn time.

I was grinning from ear to ear the whole time too!

Mahli decided she wanted to have a go too!

And well she nailed it just like Caden did!

A Christmas List

Caden has started his letter to Santa, but he isn't showing it to me yet, but he did let me look at this Christmas List...

The Lego Party

Last weekend Caden turned six and we celebrated by having a Lego Themed birthday party with his friends.

The icing on the cake started to melt, but Caden still loved the cake. It is just a sponge cake with marshmallows on top.

No party is complete with out a pinata!

As you can see from the photo above, Caden got pretty hot and sweaty from running around with his friends.

They played pass the parcel, pin the smile on the lego man, guess how many lego pieces in the jar, what's the time mister wolf, a lego and spoon race, musical statues and lots and lots of running around with a football and a soccer ball.

We have no more kids birthdays until January now. Mahli is already planning it...

Six.

You are six, SIX! I can't believe that it has already been six years since we welcomed you into this world. Just last night your Dad was worrying about your bank account and wanted to know if we were putting enough into it. I reminded him that you were only six and that we had plenty of time before university, buying a car and any other large expense for you. He responded with it, 'yeah, but it feels like only yesterday he was born and now he is SIX'. He then had a bit of a moment. He can't believe you are six either.

You are the best big brother to Mahli and Ethan. You are kind and generous with your time. You are patient (mostly) when they want to play with your toys. And you are always looking out for them. I hope you continue to do so.

I love that you are still generous with your hugs and kisses, even in public. I hope you continue to do that for a long time too. I will never not welcome them with open arms. There will always be a place in me arms for you.

You are doing really well with your school work and we are so proud of you. We understand that you struggle sometimes in the playground with finding someone to play with. It can be scary, I know. And we are working on ways to make it easier for you. It doesn't seem to be from a lack of friends, you have no shortage of those, it seems that the unstructured play and lots of other kids make you nervous. You don't seem to have those problems outside of school, so we hope to work on things to make it better at school too.

We love you to the moon and back, Caden. We hope you enjoyed your special day.

Presentation day

I had to work on Sunday so I missed Caden's first Football presentation day.

So I had to make do with B's attempt at taking photos.

He is a little scared by my camera. I did show him how to just put it on auto, but he was still a bit perplexed by it. And I don't think Ethan was co-operating with him that well.

Do you work? Do you have to miss out on things like this?

Oh, the places they will sleep

Caden was sick last week, but he was sick of being sick and he was begging me to play outside. I explained that when we are sick we were supposed to rest. He proclaimed that he was just not tired and sat at the dining table in protest. Not 5 minutes later I found him like this...

And he stayed like that for over an hour. So much for not tired, huh!

Another milestone

We reached another milestone in this house tonight. We have already experienced the first time each child has smiled, rolled over, laughed, sat up, crawled, walked. Caden and Mahli have both had their first days at Kindy. Caden has had his first day of school and now he also got to experience...

the loss of his first tooth!!!

It had been loose for about a month and the adult tooth had already emerged behind it. He would not allow anyone to assist him and was scared to pull it out himself.
When I picked him up from school today I noticed that it was extremely lose and told him it would be out before he went to bed tonight. He thought nothing of it and went about his business. We ate dinner and about 10 minutes after dinner I asked him if his tooth had fallen out. He claimed it hadn't but then he checked and yep, it was gone.

We can't find it anywhere so I am certain that he ate it with his dinner. He is now busy writing his letter to the tooth fairy to explain it's absence.

Have your children lost their first tooth yet? Did they happen to swallow it like Caden? How much did the tooth fairy leave them?

He is one wise fellow,

that Cat in a Hat!

Dr Seuss books are pretty popular here in our house, and which such great quotes as

The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.
and
Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you
I am happy to read them as often as the kids like. Caden can ever read most of The Cat in a Hat by himself.

Book week ended today with a full school parade at Caden's school and all the kids got to get up on stage and show off their costumes.

Caden's costume was finished yesterday afternoon sans gloves, because he decided he didn't need them.

He also decided that he didn't want his face painted this morning.

But he got up on stage and told the whole school that he was Cat in a Hat and that made me smile from ear to ear. We have been having some issues with him and school. Tears every morning and pronouncements of 'I hate school, Mum!'. Or simply him hiding under his covers crying his eyes out and simply saying he wasn't going. We having been working with his teacher to try and figure out what on earth was going on as he loved school and has been doing really well academically, socially is where his issues lay. And that is something we have been working on too, building his confidence, getting him into team sports...

Anyway, seeing him up on stage in front of the whole (rather large) school and hearing his voice announce that he was Cat in a Hat made me oh so proud!

Kids, they really do make your heart beat outside your chest from the moment they are born!

Bad Mummy Moment

Caden has been home from school since Tuesday afternoon after we got the dreaded call from sick bay asking us to pick him up as he wasn't well. He looked better this morning so B took him off to school and when he arrived the whole class were dressed up like Pirates... except Caden. We had no idea today was 'Pirate day'. So in an effort to regain some Mummy brownie points I made him a quick pair of 'pirate' pants this afternoon.

They are only pyjama pants made out of skull and bone fabric from my stash.

He has given me his sickness so it was the best I could do today.

He loved his new pirate pants and feel a little better for sending him to school without his pirate dress ups on...

Have you ever not known about or forgotten a special event at school?

It's my blog

so I will overload you with photos of my kids if I want too!

These were all taken while spending some time at my Grandparents house. The kids love visiting them, even thought at times it seems that they are only there to raid the biscuit jar!

I know I have been posting a lot of photo's lately. I think it is a combination of a few things that is making me do it. I have some big news that I am not allowed to share yet AND I finally picked up my camera after a month of taking practically no photos.

Please let me indulge in sharing a gazillion photos of my children. I promise the numbers will be reduced greatly in the coming weeks when I can share all my news.... and NO, I'm not pregnant.
