Party Planner: A Lego Party

Caden is turning 6 very very soon. At first he requested a Ghost party, and as much as I liked that idea I was kind of hoping that he would choose a Lego Party instead, I have wanted him to have a Lego party since his Cars birthday party last year. I let him go with his Ghost party planning though. He started his guest list and was thinking of games they could play and what type of cake he would like until he spotted me looking at Lego Parties on Pinterest and promptly changed his mind!

So a Lego Party it is! Here are a few of the pins that grabbed his attention-

The Rainbow Party

Well the Rainbow Party is over! It poured with rain all day so we didn't end up using all the decorations for fear that the rain would wreck them, but we still got out the paddling pool and the jumping castle and put the kids swimmers on as planned... they were going to get wet anyway.

For the food table we had a lot of colour and used a ruffled crepe paper back drop (tutorial for ruffled crepe paper from Made) to, you know, add more colour!

Some of the foods were-
 a rainbow fruit platter

 Rainbow Jellies

M&M's, Skittles and multicoloured popcorn

I did also make some rainbow fudge but it started melting to fast for me to be able to put it out.

To drink we had rainbow punch

We played pass the parcel and the kids got to whack a pinata

Even Ethan had a go!

We set up a paddling pool for the kids as well as the jumping castle... and I have just realised that I have no photos of the kids on the jumping castle, oops!

And here is the cake:

And then the kids went home with these party bags.

They were filled with balloons, coloured pencils, notepads and some chocolate money. We had planned on doing a treasure hunt for the pot of gold under the rainbow, but due to they rain, they went home with the gold in their party bags instead.

Mahli declared it the best party ever. And we are all settling in for an early night and a DVD on the couch. It certainly is the weather for it.

Somewhere over the rainbow

Miss Mahli is turning 4 very soon and has requested a rainbow birthday party. Well she actually requested a rainbow and dora birthday party, but I talked her down to just having a rainbow birthday party.

Rainbow birthday parties are all over the internet at the moment, so it is easy to grab some ideas, but I want to try my hand at some fresh ideas too.

As you can imagine I have been pinning all things rainbows for a little while now and thought I would share some of the pins with you. Some of the pins are party related, and well some are just pretty!

Things I'm Loving!

I have a lot to love this week! First off I actually got to spend some time with Jan the Janome yesterday and I quilted a lap quilt that has been waiting to be quilted for about 6 months

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that I am going to Melbourne next month for a bloggers brunch! This means I can meet some of the bloggers that I regularly chat with on Twitter! And since my birthday is next month I convinced B that we should go together and make in a short trip for the two of us for my birthday!
He has never been to Melbourne before (well he has been to the airport for to take connecting flights to Perth...) So I am excited for him too! I haven't been to Melbourne in over 10 yrs but I love that place!

I am loving that Cadens birthday party last weekend was a success and the rain didn't come until after the party!

I am loving (and not loving) how cheeky this little guy is becoming at the moment!
He is testing is boundaries in a big way at the moment and has also discovered a love of climbing on things, as you could probably tell from the photo!

And how can you not love this girl! Her imagination at the moment is so fun to experience. She came running up to me the other night looking like this...

And saying ARRRR, I'm a pirate!

What are you loving today?

I am linking up with Paisley Jade, pop on over and say hi!

Ooh! that's Pinterest...ing

I thought I would play along with Tina and share some of my pins from Pinterest this week. If you haven't heard of Pinterest you MUST go check it out!

This week pretty much all my pins have been birthday party related. Caden's birthday party is in two weeks since his birthday fell on the school holidays, so I have two weeks to create a non tacky Cars 2 themed party!

How cool are these?!

Have you seen anything like these drink dispensers in Oz? They are from Bed Bath and Beyond and they don't ship here :-(

He won't be getting a cake like this! But how cool is it??

Do you think his party will be non tacky enough if I use these pins as inspiration?

What have you been pinning this week? Pop on over to Tina's to check out what everyone has been lusting after this week!

Party Planner: Cars 2 Party for Caden

Caden is turning 5 next month and has requested a Cars 2 party. No surprises there as he is in love with anything Cars related (or Disney really).

We scored a really good deal on a Cars themed jumping castle for the day.

We have printed our own Cars invitations to keep the costs down.

I also have some paper carry bags that I will be using for the party bags and we are going to decorate them with Cars stickers. I am not 100% sure of what is going to go into the party bags, but I know it wont be tonnes of lollies. Depending on the party size I might put in a small crayon or pencil roll each. The girls can also have some head bands too.

Caden has also requested that his friends play pretend fishing at his party. So we will have the small claim shell set up with these 'fishing packs' we picked p from the reject shop for $4.

The one thing I really have no idea what to do with is the cake. Caden has requested a Tow Mater cake... I am petrified of that one. I have no idea how I would do it or what I will use for it. Do you have any ideas for me? Have you perhaps made a Mater cake before?? Please someone say yes! I need all the help I can get with this one.

What do you do for your kids birthdays?

On another note...

I just noticed how boring this blog template is... I will have to brighten it up a bit.

I was just about to upload some photo's of recent projects, but my camera battery just died... D' oh off I go to find the charger.

Camera is still charging but here is a little pencil roll for a little girl that is turning 4 on the weekend. I hope she likes it...

Excuse the mess in the background, my sewing area is a mess at the moment! It is also my formal dining area. So I should probably clean it up.
