Yesterday I put a call out on the And Sew We Craft Facebook page for some ideas for what to do with the kids since we are were into our second day of rain and since living here we haven't had to worry about rainy day activities because when it rains we get like 30 minutes of rain/storm and then it buggers off again.
But this rain is sticking around and the kids were getting a little bored with the board games, painting and movies.
We are almost through our first week of school holidays here in QLD and Caden declared early on the we had to do fun stuff every single day. Enter in Lotta Magazine and we were certain to do something fun every single day!
I was sent two copies of Lotta magazine to review late last week and Caden set about flipping through the pages to find out what we would be doing for the next two weeks.
This one Mum...
If you haven't hear about Lotta Magazine yet. It is for 5-10 year old kids and is full of school holiday activities. It is Australia's first completely ad-free kids magazine and will be released four times a year for the school holidays. Each issue is built around a theme. The launch issue was stories. The current issue, for the Easter holidays, is The Travel Issue.
We received both. And here are few things out of them that Caden has told me we have to do.
On the top of the list was some cardboard cubby houses, but I am still trying to track down some boxes!
Then he would like to make a stackable city!
But there are tonnes of ideas in this wonderful little magazine and we will certainly be doing a majority of them.
If you would like to check out more info on Lotta Magazine you can find them at the following places:
And guess what? If you are stumped for ideas these holidays you could enter to win a copy of each of the issues featured in this post. I also have a runners up prize of your choice of one of the issues (Stories or Travel) To enter simply complete the rafflecopter widget below.
Disclaimer: I received the two copies featured in this post for the purpose of review. No money was offered, nor received for this post. All opinions are my own.
If your kids are anything like mine they love to get involved with whatever you are doing. They regularly sit on my knee when I sew, they stand on a chair when I am cooking, hell I usually have to share the shower with at least one of them. So this week I have been trying to make sure I do kid friendly crafts. They have helped with pretty much everything I have posted on the blog so far this week but for these ones I helped them not the other way around.
First off we made some Salt Dough Ornaments. The recipe is: 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup warm water, 1 cup flour
Another favourite for kids is paper chains. We used wrapping paper for ours and cut them into strips.
Caden sat and glued for about an hour (while watching CBeebies) and he wants to make more to hang them around his bedroom.
Another Kid friendly craft is Book Trees. Do you remember making these at school? I remember using old copies of Australian Womens Weekly and it would take AGES seeing as that magazine is massive. Well instead of using old magazines I thought it would be fun to try it out on our old Golden books. We have a tonne of Golden books that we pick up from op shops and garage sales so I picked a few of the tattered ones and explained to the kids that this is a once off and that under no other circumstances are they to rip a part their books!
Anyhow here is how they turned out. I think they will look cute in the kids play area this Christmas.
I did take photo's to post a tutorial for it in case you haven't done it before or have forgotten about them but then found this one on pinterest. It is really easy to follow and she uses candle holders to display hers. Such an awesome idea!
What kids friendly Christmas crafts have you done or are planning on doing?
