All I did was instead of using ribbon for the ties I extended the lenght of fabric. So using the orignal tutorial measurements the fabric length would now be approx 195cm in lenght. Make sense?
Oh and I used different sized beads for some and the occasional marble when I ran out... shh, don't tell the kids!
So instead of a necklace looking like this:
They now look like this:

So pretty! But I don't have a sewing machine :( it's as good as those in the stores! :) I like the first one, but I ink the second one is nice for the kids...

I love the new way! I think it's a bit more funky and cool than the ribbon, but both are super pretty!

ReplyDeleteust a bit of advice though, I am now missing some balls as I bought them around the same time my son had his first dealings with the game, Hungry, Hungry Hippos. He keeps taking the balls to have "Picnics" with his toy Hippos. They always get lost when he has them.

ReplyDeleteI prefer the style of the first but the fabric/look of the second. Both look difficult to make (for me) and yet I know my girls would love them and oh to have a necklace that doesn't break so easily!

ReplyDeleteCool. I love these! How safe are they to give to young kids as gifts? What are the odds of them getting the beads/marbles out?
ReplyDeleteMelissa- If you reinforce all the seams but double stitching or over locking them then the marbles/beads should never escape. My kids haven’t got any of the beads or marbles out yet and the have been playing with some of the necklaces for 12 months if not more.
ReplyDeleteBut as with all things kids play with, just check them occasionally for wear and tear and you should be right.
Kirri- I know what you mean about necklaces that break so easily, my kids have broken so many of mine. These ones though are all still intact!
Rosie- lol, I am sure your son was having a ball with the hungry hippos. All my beads are up high for that reason... although I think I have to relocate my basting pins because the kids seemed to have nicked them...
